There are numerous buckwheat tea benefits

The benefits of buckwheat tea are numerous, ranging from being downright delicious - nutty with a hint of caramel - to being sugar- and caffeine- free and boasting anti-inflammatory, gut-loving properties.

Basically, if you’ve not yet tried buckwheat tea, you’re missing out. It's a drink that's popular across Eastern Europe and Asia, and here at Grechka our mission is to bring it to the UK with our award-winning tea.

Let us take you through what exactly buckwheat tea is and why you’ll want to drink it.

What is buckwheat tea?

Buckwheat tea is a nourishing drink made from tartary buckwheat seeds, which have particular health benefits. Tartary buckwheat has a higher concentration of minerals than regular buckwheat, making buckwheat tea an extra powerful drink.

What does buckwheat tea taste like?

One benefit of buckwheat tea is that has a naturally sweeter taste than other popular herbal drinks like green tea or matcha. Buckwheat tea tastes like a cookie, with notes of caramel. It's a 'full-bodied' tea, which means it has quite a strong flavour. It can be enjoyed on its own, with ice, or over milk to make an iced buckwheat latte.

At Grechka we offer two flavours: Buckwheat Tea Peach and Buckwheat Tea Pure. The additional peach flavour enhances the natural honey caramel notes in the pure buckwheat, making this the ideal option for the sweeter-toothed amongst you.

How do you drink buckwheat tea?

We’re a big fan of buckwheat tea and lattes at Grechka, and it’s often our guilt-free (caffeine-free!) afternoon pick-me-up.

There are several different ways to make it. If you would like a hot drink, brew 1-2 tsp of our granulated buckwheat seeds in hot water for 2-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like the taste.

Granulated tartary buckwheat tea seeds have lots of health benefits

We sell loose granulated buckwheat seeds for our tea, which helps ensure that no extra nasty micro-plastics seep into your body via your drink. The granules naturally sink to the bottom of the cup, so you don’t have to worry about them hitting your lip as you drink! You can also brew buckwheat tea in a French press if you’d prefer to have the seeds removed.

We sell granulated buckwheat tea here at Grechka as it’s quick and easy to infuse, producing a strong, aromatic drink. Our granules can also be re-infused to make up to three cups of tea.

To make a cold brew out of your buckwheat tea, leave it to infuse overnight. Pour over ice or milk in the morning and you’ve got a buckwheat iced latte!

Benefits of Buckwheat Tea

Buckwheat tea is easy to prepare and can be made into a multitude of different drinks and flavours - but that’s not even the best bit. It’s also a nutritional powerhouse, bursting with minerals and plant compounds that can have a positive impact on your well-being.

Buckwheat tea health benefits include anti-inflammatory properties and blood sugar regulation

Here are some of the amazing health benefits of buckwheat tea:

Free from caffeine and sugar

Yes, you read that right: one benefit of buckwheat tea is that it’s caffeine- and sugar-free. Unlike herbal drinks such as matcha, buckwheat tea contains no caffeine at all, so won’t affect your sleep patterns.

In fact, it might even help you sleep, as tartary buckwheat contains high levels of magnesium, which can improve your sleep. Getting regular sleep will help you feel energised and ready to tackle the day ahead, with no need to rely on caffeinated or sugary drinks.

Can have anti-inflammatory effects

Buckwheat grains contain rutin, a plant compound which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Using buckwheat tea as part of an anti-inflammatory diet can help you relive symptoms of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, IBS and heart disease, as well as mental health conditions like brain fog.

Promotes healthy blood pressure and blood flow

Our good friend rutin plays a part here, too, as it helps to prevent blood clots and lower blood pressure.

Buckwheat also contains D-chiro-inositol, which is another plant compound thought to lower blood pressure.

The benefit of buckwheat tea is that you’ll ingest all of these naturally-occurring plant compounds and minerals as part of a delicious drink, which will have a positive impact on your health.

Is good for the gut

Buckwheat contains fibre, which is great for gut health and keeping your microbiome happy.

Fibre can’t be digested by your body, so it whizzes straight through the digestive system. This helps combat things like constipation and bloating, as well as lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
